Arrival Time for Europe

I will be booking award travel. All the saver fares are redeyes. I have a choice to get a non-stop and arrive early in the morning or have connecting flights to arrive later in the day. Also, I may even be able to get a business class saver on the nonstop. So, is it best to stay up all day or get in later?

Regardless of the arrival time I would go for the business class saver.

Even if you arrive at 0 dark thirty a non stop is always better in my opinion. Being tired at your destination is better than dragging through airports. And if you can get business class with points go for it!

Thank you for your reply. The business class may allow a better sleep. If I was unable to get the business class, then what would be your choice.

We always prefer to arrive early in the day. For me there's nothing more agonizing and tedious as a very long flight during daylight, when I'm wide awake. I try to arrange my departure day so I can board the plane tired out and ready to sleep. The upside of arriving early in the day vs late is that we can take care of any business as soon as we arrive and can get oriented to our new location right away, instead of waiting til the next day.

Business class would definitely be icing on the cake.

Non-stop, business class. Unless you ate flying to London from the east coast and can take a daytime flight(7:30am-7:30pm, the easiet of all.

All our flights to Europe are overnight, so flying only during the day would be unique. Business class? Delightful and far too spendy at retail prices.

If you are on the West Coast, as I am, I suspect you will find all flights to Europe will be overnighters.

If you have the miles, get business class. Much nicer on the plane and usually have access to the airline's lounge

Non stop eliminates the chances for a missed connection and reduces the chance of misdirected luggage.

Given the choice of business with a stop vs. coach direct , I would take the business class flt.

2 cents please :-)

Business class and non stop is the optimum.....
If you have an airline that offers premium economy that is the next best thing.

If you can't get business class you have to decide if you can sleep sitting up. I can't so I prefer to arrive in Europe mid afternoon as I will be exhausted and won't have too many hours before I can hit the sack. The first time I went I arrived at 6 AM and staying up until 8 or 9 PM just about did me in. I always arrive in Europe a day or two before a tour. If I am not taking a tour, I allow a day to two days to help with jetlag and then start my touring after some good rest.

I would always select the non-stop flight. I'd rather be at the final location early in the morning vs. sitting in an airport or having the chance of missing a connecting flight.

Suki: Saver is AA terminology, and AA also has a daytime London flight from Chicago with 5am short flights from various cities that connect to it, so Midwest flyers also have a non redeye option to London.

OP: Note that BA flights on AA points is to be avoided! Not free!

Arrive early that way you have an extra day in your destination and time to walk around and shake off jet lag
