Arrival Time at Train Stations

Just get there in time to catch the train because they almost always leave on time. This can vary from just a minute or 2 at small stations to 15-20 minutes at large stations with many platforms and sometimes longer walks.

...... and generally the departure track is not posted until 30 minutes prior to departure.

In the train stations I've been in (Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Milan) there was no "check-in" process or other lines of people to navigate. When the train arrives, you get on (schlepping your own luggage onto the train). They do not check your ticket until after the train departs. So aside from spending a few minutes to locate the track where the train will arrive, there is no need to arrive early.
