Around the world tickets?

We are a family planning on travelling around the world for a year and are looking for flexible around the world tickets. Do they exist? Anybody have any experience/ travel agent to share?

This is a great topic to explore on the Lonely Planet's website. Many more long-term travelers there.

I would research that trip thoroughly on the web before contacting a travel agent. Do a google search for "Around the world air travel".

Also read the air travel sections on Graffiti Wall as well as the archive sections from previous years. You will find scores of travelers comments on their trips.

Yes they exist.

Yes they are really good value.

You need a specialist company to set these tickets up.

I can recommend a company called Discover The World in Phoenix AZ

THank you for your feedback. I will try the Discover your world. Have you traveled on a round-the-world ticket?

I have no experience with around-the-world tickets, but I would definitely use a travel agent for this (and I rarely use a travel agent). I suggest you contact Classic Connections here in Seattle (Queen Anne Hill). Excellent service when I've used them for shorter trips. They do a lot of complex ticketing.

I have seen a lot of information on RTW tix on LP.

I do know one thing, the more trans-equatorial transitions you make, the more expensive it will be. I.E. Oz to Asia to Africa back to Europe then to S. America and then N. America is much more expensive because of the equator crossings.

You can also check Intrepid and Eurotrip.com - they may have some information as well.

Good luck!

Hi Ted

I work for an airline - so the tickets I travel on are not available to the public.

The only reason I'm so strong for 'Discover the World' is that when I was a humble Reservations Agent and passengers were travelling on a round the world ticket and something went wrong or they needed to change their travel plans etc. The tickets set up by DTW in Phoenix were always set up in apple pie order and there was never a problem and we never had to charge passengers extra and the phone call was done in under five minutes and everyone went away happy ( or as happy as you can be if a family tragedy is summoning you back home ).

They also seemed to be very reasonably priced - but that was a few years ago.
