are Treking poles allowed in Carry-on to Europe?

For those who use treking poles in Euope, has anyone taken their telescoping treking poles on carry-on without issue? They get to about 21" but wasnt sure they would be ok in the RS-Bag as carryon (to avoid checking- I figured it would be easier to buy in Switzerland sport shop if its too much hassel!)?

Greeting

I would think no since ski poles are not allowed - definitely no if they have any kinds of points on them.

Otherwise, you are at the mercy of the security personnel at your departure airport, so it's up to you whether you want to risk having to leave it behind. The safest thing to do is to check the pole or buy one in Switzerland.

I agree. I really can't see something like a trekking pole being acceptable as carry on in the Cabin.

hi - thanks for the replies - I figured it was a long shot, but wanted to check. I will just buy at my destination if needed! - thanks both for the input!

I packed mine in my checked luggage. If you're not checking anything buy poles in Europe and ship them back to yourself at the end of the trip if you want to keep them.

Tom, I went hiking in Switzerland last October and I can tell you absolutely that trekking poles are not allowed in carry on.

I honestly never carry on when traveling to Europe, and knock on wood, have never had a problem.

I packed all my hiking stuff in a wheeled bag that fit the poles. With the Euro at $1.36 yesterday...it was worth it to me to bring my stuff with, and not add the expense of buying poles there.
