I am wondering if anyone has ever purchased independent insurance for their car rental? (and turned down the CDW) I will be renting a car in the UK and ran across this website: www.insurance4carhire.com it sounds reasonable.....comments??

... We suggest you contact a local Clarkston independent insurance agency to ask advice about purchase of renter's auto insurance abroad. Your agent may not be a person in a position to recommend specific coverages or sell you a policy, but he/ she can usually provide a good reference to one who does.

Hi Tara,
I read about this insurance in the travel section of the Times here in the UK a while ago. It got a good write-up; I can't recall everything they said about it, but I think it covers things like damage to tyres etc., that are not normally covered even with the CDW.

Your current auto insurance may cover rentals abroad already. Give them a call. :-)
