I am just trying to get a feel for the plane. But NWA only has the return flight seat map up. (Which makes me nervous in itself, why they don't have both). All it says for aircraft there is 74M... but I can't find the layout for that craft on seatguru, ect. :) I'm flying out of ORD on an afternoon/early evening flight. I'm just really trying to figure out which seat numbers I should ask for once they release the "preferred" seats, as they do 24hrs before flight. My traveling companion is 6'5", around 220-230lb-- I'd rather he not be completely miserable, if I can avoid it. So if anyone has any advise on seats that would be great...
Could it be that the flight is operated by KLM and you need to look at the KLM seat maps? just a thought
If you give us the flight number....airline code and number...we can tell you who is operating the flight. Then you'll know which plane to look at.
Yeah, Frank II, it's getting to where there are only about two and a half airlines left, after partners/mergers/bankrupcies.
Dunno if this helps, I'm flying KLM from Schiphol to ORD on Sun, Oct 11. The aircraft is listed as a 747-400 mixed configuration. This means it is a passenger/cargo combination , with the back part of coach removed and used for cargo. You might find it by trying "747-400 combi". The seating configuration is the same as a "regular" 747, just fewer rows.
(my return flight, booked thru KLM is on an Air France airbus - go figure!)
Chani...FYI---Air France/KLM are sister airlines. They are the same company but run as separate airlines.
Thanks all... I looked back at my initial conformation email, and that had the aircraft type on it... I have no idea why it's not on the nwa reservation site. It is KLM operating, but their website spits me to nwa.com when i look up my reservation. the flight is klm 612 or something like that.
It is the 747-400, but it doesn't say anything about combi? I know what seatguru has to say, but if anyone else has flown one of these crafts.. if you could tell me your experiences, It is set up 3-3-3... and will most likely be on the sides, not the middle...
thanks for all your help guys!! :)
Hi, Gwen, if it's not the combi take a look at sitting in the last couple rows of the plane. Normally not great seats as they are near the bathroom.
However for a big/tall guy they are great. If you look at the seat map on a 747-400 as they narrow towards the back, the rows go from 3 seats to 2 on the sides. There is a treMENdous amount of shoulder room for the window seat, AND leg room where the seat in front of that seat is missing as well.
Check out rows 63-66 on seatguru.com ! :) Awesome seats for a big guy.
Thanks all. I was able to look at my flight through the klm site today, even though i have to check in through nwa.com. KLM lists the plane as a combi plane. Of course any seats even resembling exit are blocked from view. :) But at least I can look, doesn't even pop up when i look through nwa--- but accoridng to klm i am supposed to check in with nwa... What are people's experiences with the bulkhead seats? as an alternative to straight exit rows... since it doesn't appear this plane has too many of those seats. I know they can be where they put babies, but...
also, a question about last minute upgrading. it looks like airlines are just trying to fill seats this fall, but i know amsterdam continues to be a popular destination. how might we go about getting an upgrade last minute, at the gate, or what have you? I'm sure we can ask, but is there anything else that we can do to increase our odds? (probably not). I have world perks... but i don't fly enough to qualify for elite status... about a flight a year at most...
thanks for all the help!
Just a heads up for your return flight on KLM about luggage weight. We flew Barcelona to Amsterdam on KLM then home to Mpls on NWA. KLM weighed carry on luggage and had a strict weight restriction of 12kg.Our bags weighed 13kg which is just over 28 pounds and we were forced to check them in Barcelona. We were surprised and not to happy about this .We had carried this same luggage on board on our flight from Mpls to Paris on NWA with no problem.
Hi Gwen,
In regard to seat upgrades: I haven't flown out of ORD, but I have some friends who are stewardesses and flew the Amdam route - they said it's always full or almost full, every flight. (that was a couple years ago). I know every Amdam flight I've taken on KLM/NWA (SEA/DTW/MSP) have been completely, and totally full.
Hopefully someone who knows that particular route has better news!
