anyone flown Norwegian?

We are flying Norwegian to Gatwick on our way to Italy, and then returning on Norwegian from Rome. I just noticed on their website the baggage allowance for carry on has a weight limit--and they include your personal item along with your small rolling bag weight in the limit. Do they really weigh both at the gate? Has anyone had experience with this? Thanks!

You might also check the archived threads here; I think there was another query about this not long ago. The responses were mixed from those, like me ( I flew from JFK-Oslo one way in late June), where, yes, my carry-on AND personal item were both weighed at check in, to those whose weren't. Neither of mine was weighed again at the gate. But I believe almost everyone who posted initially had at least the carry on weighed?
"10 kg"- at the cheapest fare ( what level do you have?)- my American self didn't even think what that really meant! I did check the dimensions, discovering my usual "personal" item tote bag was twice the size allowed. My hard- shell wheeled suitcase exactly met the size limit but suddenly its "lightweight" 5 pounds wasn't so light anymore, for a total 22 lb allowance for both pieces.
After you get more responses/find the past posts you might decide to just pay in advance to check the primary bag and not go through the hassle or stress. Me, as an obsessive carry-on on only person, then embarked on a quest to pull it off! I did, but ended up using a soft- sided duffel and buying a digital luggage scale.
At the long- rehearsed check in finale, wearing my 1 lb shoes and, tying my pocketed coat around my waist with heavier stuff stuffed in the pockets, I tried to hide my triumphant grin when the scale was just over 20lbs!

WE flew Denver to Gatwick last year. Yes they did way weigh our luggage at the check in. Keep them to 10 kg combined or buy the checked bag in advance as it is considerably less expensive.

You may also want to check what equipment they are using on your routing. A recent discussion brought to light the fact that Norwegian ordered their 787s with the RR engine which has some sort of 'birth defect' and the planes have been pulled from service until the fix is installed. There have been complaints about the discomfort of the substitute planes

Just remember Norwegian is an al carte, budget airline. You pay for everything that you want. (Restrooms are free). Weight limits are strict and they will enforce it at check in. But -- they is why the ticket is cheaper.

Thanks everyone, this is all helpful, particularly the link to the other thread.

We bought lowfare+, but our travel docs don't have that "+" on them. It lists the meals, priority boarding etc. It lists one carry on, but on the website "+" fares are allowed a personal item in addition to the carryon. Should I be worried?

My daughter flew this today - Gatwick to Seattle, Premium Economy. Her checked bags were weighed. One was 20.2 kg and one was 19.8. The max was 20kg. The check in agent said it was close enough, FWIW. Her carry on (which was definitely over) (don't worry, she says she'll never pack heavy again) was NOT weighed. This was our experience at the Premium Economy desk last month - not weighing Premium Economy carry on but weighing the carry on luggage of the Coach passengers.

Frank, have you flown Norwegian Air?

As I, and others, said in the current thread I linked, my carry-on was not weighed going or returning. Friends of mine have flown NA at least 9 times and their carry-ons have never been weighed. People carried on way more than website says they allow and no one at NA said a word. Overhead bins on international flights are huge, plenty of room. I like à la carte, I don’t like paying for what I don’t want or need. I love NA, they are excellent on every level. I explain why in the current thread I link above.

Both Low Fare and Low Fare Plus allow for a personal item in addition to the carryon. But the items are weighed as a whole for a combined 22 lb. weight limit.
