The wife and I are headed to Italy in June, and I procrastinated on buying airline tickets. Right now on Kayak, there is a flight on Finnair that is about $300 cheaper per person than the usual suspect airlines. As I had never heard of this airline before, I feel like this price is too good to be true. Does Finnair make you stand up the whole time with no bathroom breaks? I'm reading mixed reviews on Tripadvisor. Thanks in advance, Kevin in KC
I flew Finnair round trip to Warsaw, Poland with a change of planes in Helsinki, Finland. I've flown most US domestic airlines, Swiss Air, Lufthansa and Virgin in Europe. For us, Finnair goes down in history as the worst airline we've been on and I will pay more money, if the choice is there, to fly on another airline. Our experience, take it for what it was....The aircraft was the oldest I believe I've ever been on (seats weren't fully intact and everythign was rattling (seats, metal, etc). Our original seats on our outbound flight were near the bathroom and our knees (I'm 5'8") were pulled up and against the seats in front of us and it smelled of urine, badly. Most of the stewardesses were mean (we would speak, they would make a face, not exaggerating) and refused to help or move us even though more than half the plane was empty. Finally, a kind one came back, and had pity on us. On our return flight there wasn't any more room for any carry-on (since the volleyball team brought back so many souvenirs - think they were Finnish team) and the stewardesses didn't seem to care, so there we sat with stuff in our laps and one of our seats was broken and no one wanted to help. Finally, one kind one (I think in both cases it was the "lead" stewardess) moved us and we had an extra seat for our stuff (they were sort of liberal about where stuff went oddly enough). It was just awful and I'm sure I'm blocking more awfulness out...anyway, like I said, that was my experience and maybe we were extremely unlucky. Oh, and I paid for my flight last minute (tagged along with boyfriend who was traveling on business) and it was one of the most expensive flights I've ever purchased, so no deals for me there either.
