We have a 7:20am Saturday flight out of Tegel to Vienna. We connect in Vienna and fly to Russia. USA passports. Anybody have any advice about how early to be at Tegel? (We've been hearing vague rumors that Tegel is swamped due to delay with the new airport, and we would really appreciate some first-hand 'on-the-ground' reporting.)

I flew out of Tegel on June 3rd (had been scheduled for Brandenburg). It was not swamped then. It didn't even seem very busy to me. I flew Swiss Air from Terminal A and you could not even check-in at the desk until 90 minutes before departure. You could use the kiosk before that time, but then had to take your baggage over to a Lufthansa counter which served Star Alliance carriers. I was there early, so I used the kiosk and dropped off my luggage with Lufthansa. It is a very small airport. In Terminal A, both check-in and security are right at the gate. Thus, you can't enter the gate until the flight before yours has departed. On Swiss Air, they only let one flight check-in at a time. Have you checked with your carrier to see if they have any specific info for Tegel?

We departed Tegel on July 1 and can affirm that it is operating normally. It looks a bit worn, as one might expect, but all the shops and restaurants are open and the airport is just fine.
90 min. ahead should be fine.
