Any great fares from SF to Europe this summer?

Hoping to tag a fare under 700 for summer travel, anybody out there heard anything? or am I dreaming? Is there a charter service from N. Calif to Europe?

Your are dreaming. The probability of a summer fare under $700 is pretty low -- high oil, low dollar, and reduced capacity. Not a great combination. You would be lucky to see a fare under $700 in off peak times.

Thanks to all who replied on my dream of a reasonable fare this summer. Maybe consolidators like hotwire last minute are an option.

Been watching fares on Kayak.com and elsewhere since early February. Not a chance! Not from the West Coast. Ended up picking up a $1400 fare mid-summer to Austria and consider myself lucky (even the new Lufthansa connection to FRF didn't produce a special).

Maybe try to stitch together a trip using JetBlue or Virgin and then wherever you need to go.

Its not likely to happen ... Fares are about double what you're looking to pay for the summer. Maybe travel during the winter when fares drop.

Never say never!! Although I didn't get my fare under $700, I DID get my air for $899 Round Trip on Air France from Los Angeles. I booked it 2 months ago, but I kept watching, and waiting for those "24-48 hour special, web site special"

Keep checking... I think I booked it on a Saturday?? I so happened to check online and they had a web special for 1 day only.

Michelle where can I find more information on that? I don't see it on US Airways' or Orbitz' sites.

Terms of the U-S Air sale say "Fares are valid for travel March 29 through May 25, 2008. All travel must be completed by May 25, 2008," so you'll have to input travel dates between those times. Since the sale seems to have started March 29th, all the good deals may already be gone! Orbitz isn't being very timely, is it? One way to keep up to date is register at every airline that may come anywhere close to your home town, and get them to send you their newsletters.

Are you sure that isn't for their Europe sale? I still haven't seen any special rates for London for US Airways. I'm looking for special rates on any airline from the western US to London in August... I'm a dreamer, aren't I? :)

Try Air Canada. I got a roundtrip ticket from SFO to Heathrow (with a layover in Toronto) for about $650.
