Any experience with Condor Airline?

I am going to book tickets to Frankfurt for the fall. Generally we fly direct from San Francisco, but for reasons particular to this trip, I would like the ease of flying out of Sacramento. I am interested in Condor because the connection would be in Seattle (via Alaska Airlines). I prefer to avoid Denver or Chicago as connecting airports due to weather or other issues. The reviews on TripAdvisor for Condor are terrible, although many of the issues mentioned would not bother me. Any experiences you have had would be appreciated.

Hi— we flew Condor from Seattle to Frankfurt in business class last September (2022), courtesy of our Alaska Airlines miles. We were originally booked on our usual carrier, British Airways, but they canceled one leg of the flight and left us with few good options for a replacement. So we canceled the BA flight and booked Condor, which we have flown once before with no issues.

The flight, on a newish A330, was on time and comfortable. The food in business class was actually better than what we have experienced with BA business class. And our checked luggage arrived with us (no surprise, since it was a non-stop flight). We were both quite pleased, especially since we saved about $1000 over the BA flight cost ( including seat selection fees).

I was planning to book Condor again for our homeward flight next September, again with Alaska miles, but I kept getting an error message at the last step (payment) and I gave up after an hour or so. Some kind of website glitch, and not something I could not fault the airline for.

I do know they get complaints about customer service (on the phone) but we have never needed anything. Also remember that satisfied customers rarely write reviews; while angry ones feel the need to vent. And I know some of our good experience is due to flying business class. But most of it, like on time record and checked bags arriving, would apply to all classes of travel.

The day we flew into Frankfurt there was a major Lufthansa kerfuffle going on, but we never had any trouble at all.

We flew Condor Portland to Las Vegas to Frankfurt, connection to Ljubljana and return from Dubrovnik in 2019. We had Premium Economy. We had no problems, other than a long line and domewhat chaotic process to board in Frankfurt. The price was good, it was adequately comfortable (we'd rather save on flights and spend on great experiences or restaurants).

We have the same experience as Lola, twice. Love going over water from the west coast and their Business Class is good . We also flew FRA to the US in Premium Economy a few years ago which was fine, BUT we had upgraded an hour into the flight when we experienced how miserably crowded economy was. I would never again subject myself to economy on Condor. Also, do not change planes in FRA when on Condor. It is a terrible airport to transit.

We flew them from pdx to Frankfurt in June of this year. It was nice to have a nonstop flight. We were in premium economy, so we had a couple inches of extra legroom.

Check the aircraft, they are starting to roll out their A330neo fleet. I would only fly them in economy if that is your plane. The economy cabin is too cramped for a long flight otherwise.

padams,

I've flown with Condor a number of times to and from Frankfurt:

2016 : Vancouver to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Vancouver
2017 : Seattle to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Seattle
2021 : Seattle to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Toronto
2022 : Vancouver to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Vancouver

I've had pleasant comfortable experiences on every flight, despite slightly smaller seat width and finer seat pitch (row separation) compared, to say, Lufthansa YVR-FRA equivalent. On Condor, I've never had any complaints about the meal service or the in-flight entertainment when I've chosen to purchase the service. I'm relatively easy to please, as I still retain "training" of having been on far too many 9- to 10-hour flights. All flights were in Economy class on Boeing 767-300s, though I expect in the coming "high" season the FRA-YVR non-stops will switch over to their new and shiny Airbus metal.

I strongly recommend a higher category than economy. I don’t believe I have ever flown in a smaller seat than this airline and we usually fly economy.

Thank you all. We fly Premium Economy when going to Europe, so your responses were very helpful. We will be booking from Sacramento through Seattle to Frankfurt.

I had a great experience with Condor when I returned home from my Rick Steves tour in 2019. Flew from Frankfurt to Seattle in comfort class (when I was living in Portland) and I was pleasantly surprised at the comfort and quality of service.

But I do agree with others who commented about changing planes in Frankfurt. I had a terrible experience. I flew from Vienna to Frankfurt, and my flight to Seattle wasn't supposed to depart for around 1.5-2hours. When I landed in Frankfurt, the info on the board said they were already boarding, which I thought was strange. So I panicked and had to run god knows how far and get through security to get to my next flight. I was sweaty and disgusting when I arrived at the gate, only to find out they were just checking passports. I was pissed! Thankfully, I only did carry on luggage, and was able to clean up a bit in the airport bathroom before boarding, which didn't happen for another hour or so. Not a fun experience in that regard! Thankfully the great flight made up for it.
