Another Venice to Munich train query

We are 3 adults (2 seniors) planning the same trip as Charlie in another post except that we are OK w/leaving Venice late morning & staying in a Munich airport hotel in order to get a morning flight back to the US
We will be in Venice a week before we want to leave on June 27 for Munich (Venice-Villach-Salzburg-Munich; bus, OIC, RE, S-Bahn). Should we wait until we get to Venice to get the tickets? Can we get tickets in Venice for the whole trip? The DB Bahn website doesn't give prices - just says "unknown tariff abroad."

Also, do the OIC and RE trains offer reserved seats that face each other (2 & 2)?
Thanks!

I tried looking at the Trenitalia website. Even though I plugged in departure for 11, the only choice I was given was for the 22:51 train which would arrive in the Munich main station at 06:30.
Am I doing something wrong, or is there no availability?
Also, do they offer senior discounts, and if so, how do I locate them?

I am totally confused...:-)

The reason you only see the night train listed for 27 June is that new timetables will go into effect on 13 June and Trenitalia hasn't uploaded theirs yet. Enter a date prior to 13 June and you'll see all your choices.

A faster route would be to take a regional train from Venezia Santa Lucia to Verona Porto Nuova, departing at 11:03 and arriving at 12:42. Then take an EC train to Munich, departing at 13:05 and arriving at 18:25. You can book the Verona-Munich train now on the German Rail site, www.bahn.de, and you can get a Europa-Spezial Italien Savings fare as low as €39. The fare for the regional train from Venice to Verona is €6.15.

I would never wait until I was in Europe to book an international train like that, particularly when your flight back to the US so much depends on it.

The Bahn only gives prices online for trains for which they sell tickets online, and, in general, these are only trains with one terminus in Germany. So, they are not going to give you prices for Venice to Villach to Salzburg. That's why they say "unknown tariff abroad". You can get those tickets on the Austrian Rail website, www.oebb.at (but not the part from Salzburg to Munich).

As Tim mentioned, there are also direct ECs from Verona to Munich (four a day). But you will only see the fares, and maybe, right now, the trains themselves, by putting in Verona to Munich Hbf, and you can book these ECs at a discounted fare starting at €39 pP. If you put in Venice to Munich, it will include a leg entirely outside of Germany (Venice to Verona) and the Bahn website will not be able to offer you the discounted fare.

RE (regional) trains do not have reserved seats.
