Another train complication—-Brescia to Bergamo. Edit: not really, see below

I put Bergamo in our trip plan for September, but in looking up the train schedules to fine-tune our plans, I have discovered that no trains are scheduled on this section after June 8. I cannot figure out from the schedules currently available when this closure might end. I did find this Trenord website with current information, but it does not go far enough into summer to be helpful.

https://www.trenord.it/en/double-tracking-bergamo-ponte-san-pietro-and-bergamo-junction/

I previously found some information on closures on major cross-border train routes into and out of Switzerland on the SBB website, but this does not include the Regionale train routes in Italy.

https://www.sbb.ch/en/travel-information/rail-traffic-information/timetable-change/europe.html

I have found some information on Trenitalia, in Italian, but it does not include the closure that begins June 8, which is the one that concerns me.

Does anyone have better information? I am thinking that if I cannot find the details and dates, I should skip the stop in Bergamo. It was to be an intermediate stop between Locarno and Malcescine, and I do not want it to get complicated by a bus transfer or long detours. Easier to just make our stopover in Brescia.

They are regional trains and will not show up on the schedule until close to June 8. Its the Italian way. Just look at the schedule now and figure, with a fair amount of confidence, that they will not change. Price will always be the same, so no point buying in advance. If there is with a further connection on a Frecce train, you can buy that leg now to get a discounted advance price.

Thank you, Sam. So it is just pure coincidence that the trains between Brescia and Bergamo disappear the same day as the Domodossola to Milan EC trains stop running? Somehow I thought the schedule change was June 12 (so it says elsewhere on this forum).

We faced a construction closure in that area last September, between Brescia and Desenzano, so I have been on the lookout for others this year. My husband has put an embargo on bus links for our travels.

But now I feel reassured and will just wait, glad that I don’t have to cancel our reservation in Bergamo. Our trip isn’t until late September, so it’s too early to buy tickets even for the fast trains. I was just trying to work out a strategy for traveling from Locarno to Bergamo to Malcescine to Verbania and back to Locarno over a period of 2 weeks, using a combination of trains and ferries. But the summer schedules for the ferries haven’t been released either, so too early all the way around. I had some free time while baby granddaughter we are caring for was napping, and got carried away with trip planning.

June 8 is the last day any regional train is scheduled. June 9 is the new schedule revision date.

It was explained a while back by a local as follows.
Twice a year, the schedules are updated. The Provincial government subsidizes the regional trains. The operating companies would like to reduce service and increase prices. The government, representing the tax payers, wants to reduce prices and increase service. Thus it is a negotiation, and like all negotiations, they go down to the deadline. Its a game. Italians know its a game and know how it is played. Thus they don't worry too much about it. They are confident that when they wake up Sunday morning on June 9, the train will be there. They are more apt to worry about a strike, but they are usually announced in advance, and sometimes called off.

I knew about the June schedule revision, but didn’t know it was so political in Italy. I am more familiar with the Swiss system, which does show regional trains past the June revision date (maybe because they don’t change).
