Another Orbitz Question: if we miss a connection

I'm finding $1140 airfare for pdx-bcn, bcn-paris, cdg-pdx which I think is pretty good for early June. What do you think? I posted about the short, one-hour transfer from cdg-bcn on the outbound flight (see 'pesky one hour cdg layover') and most responses were to go for it. There is another flight 3+ hours later, though no guarantee they will have 3 seats available.
The whole trip is AirFrance via Orbitz. If there is a missed connection (due to late flight, short layover, immigration and terminal change) will AF be helpful about getting us to our destination or will they tell us to call Orbitz? I usually book through the airlines websites but this time the price difference is around $600. I even called and asked the reservationist to check.

No matter where you get the ticket, if it's all on one airline (and you're booked from Portland to Barcelona) and they screw it up, it's their obligation to move you along as quickly as possible. How quickly depends upon seat availability.

Thanks again, Ed. I was nervous about this one and couldn't find an easy or clear answer on the internet. Only horror stories. The airports would be full of stranded Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity customers if they weren't getting them to their destinations.
I'll go check if my airfare is still available or if I've procrastinated too long.
