Similar to Claudette, we too plan to use the Tube from terminal 5. Our destination is Marble Arch. One suggestion is Piccadilly into Green Park, change for 1 stop up to Bond, then change again for 1 stop to M.Arch. OR...go Piccadilly to Holborn, just 1 change and back to M.Arch station. I've never been and both take about the same time. Should I just do 1 change or is there any reason to avoid Holborn as a transfer station? Thanks!
As a general rule you should always take the route with the least amount of transfers. Holborn would be my choice.
Thank you all again for the advice. The Just Airports option is very intriguing. Can't wait to get to London!
That's a bit of a dodgy trip: both Green Park and Holborn are pretty inconvenient for connections. Expect to carry suitcases up and down stairs and along long corridors. I'm not sure there is an easy-connection route to Marble Arch from Heathrow.
Thank you both...1 change is better, but Holborn doesn't sound like an easy change from the Piccadilly line to the Central. Would you (or anyone) have a better way to get to M.Arch (the Marriott on George St.). A taxi seems prohibitive...maybe I should take another look at the Express or the Connect? I'm in no hurry, that's why the Tube seemed best. Maybe just tough out that one change at Holborn after all? thanks
If money is not terribly tight, I would suggest taking the Heathrow Connect into Paddington (its more expensive than the Tube, but far less than the Heathrow Express) and then a taxi from Paddington to Marble Arch. A taxi for 2 people going a relatively short distance inside the Circle Line which sort of defines central London will be only a few dollars. This will be faster than the Tube, easier, and not too much more expensive (especially if your party--you mentioned "we" --is 2 or more people.
If you decide not to take the Tube, another option is a private car service. The cash fare for Just Airports for a saloon (sedan) from Heathrow to anywhere in postal code W1 (Marble Arch) is 30 GBP.
However, if you're packing light and want to save money, take the Tube and make a single transfer at Holborn.
