I am flying into Amsterdam Schipol airport and plan to buy a 1 or 2 day Amsterdam Transit Pass. The descriptions in Rick's books say it is valid throughout the Netherlands. Is it good for the train from Schipol to Amsterdam Centraal Station? Or must I buy a separate ticket for that ride?
The Amsterdam transit pass is only good for the city of Amsterdam: trams, city buses, and the metro. It will not cover the rail journey from the airport to Centraal Station- you must purchase this ticket separately. The stripkaart transit tickets are valid all across Holland. But the stripkaarts were recently discontinued and replaced with a new smart-card type transit pass. Similar to the Oyster Card in London.
What?? No more need to carry around meters and meters of strippenkaart to get around the Netherlands? What will I do with all that space in my shirt pocket?! ;)
