Amsterdam to Berlin

Hello travelers, What is the best way to get from Amsterdam to Berlin? By train, about how long does that take? I'm struggling navigating all of the different countries' train websites. For this leg of our journey, would I book the tickets with bahn.com or with the Netherlands train website (www.ns.nl correct?). Also, we are staying in a hostel in downtown Berlin. Which of it's train stations should we travel to? Thanks for your help!!

The fastest train connections are an IC train to Hannover + ICE train to Berlin (faster than the direct slower train all the way to Berlin). Several combinations are available per day and fares start at € 39 if you buy with maximum advance on www.bhan.com. Imposible to say which station is best for you, depends on your hostel location of course. There are also numerous daily direct flights.

As Andre said, book ASAP (up to 92 days allowed) on the German Rail site to get the lowest discount fare. You will arrive at Berlin Hbf, the main station.

With just the IC, you can go all the way to Berlin Hbf without changing trains. However, the IC stops in Hannover, where you can switch to the faster ICE. If you change to the ICE, you'll get to Berlin 13 min sooner, but if you have a lot of luggage, the change might be more challenging (you'll have 3 min to get off the IC, a 7 min wait, then 3 min to get on the ICE, which will arrive at the same platform that the IC just left. So, direct IC, more convenient; IC/ICE, 13 min faster. One other thing to consider - if you are already going to be in Amsterdam, the advance purchase fares make sense. However, if you arriving by air from the US and going directly to Berlin, there is a possibility that the flight might be late arriving and you might miss your train. Advance purchase tickets are train specific and worthless for later trains.
