Amsterdam or Munich

I am going on a 2 week trip with friends and I'm wondering if we should visit Amsterdam or Munich. We will be in Paris for the last week. We are going mid-April. Any suggestions or comments?

Lisa, It would help to have some further information. What prompted your desire to visit either Amsterdam and Munich? What type of sights are you most interested in seeing? It's not really that difficult to get from either city to Paris, although Amsterdam is closer and therefore the travel time will be shorter.

Yes, it depends on what you like. I love Munich and am not a fan of Amsterdam but my likes may be completely different from yours.

Both cities have lots of local color, interesting museums and historical sites but in mid-April I'd be tempted to visit Amsterdam and combine it with a day (or half-day) trip to Keukenhof to see the spectacular display of daffodils, tulips and other spring flowers. If you're not familiar with Keukenhof, do google it. It is easily and cheaply reached from Amsterdam.

I've never been to Munich so I can't compare the two, but I have been to Amsterdam 3 times and really like it.

I would go to Amsterdam. Livelier, more interesting for me personally, and it is Tulip Season!!!! It does depend on what you want to see. What sites interest you in both cities? Make your decision on that, not what all of us think? Some of us adore art, others history, others food or beer or chocolate, some want to wander through the fields or visit a farm. If I planned your trip for you, you might hate me by the end.

Should you have cheesecake or apple pie ala mode for dessert? What possibly drives the question? Without knowing you or your likes / dislikes its impossible to answer the question. Because somebody likes or not a place is no reason that you might like / dislike a place. Should you have a hamburger or lasagna? Both Amsterdam and Munich have very special qualities, both are reachable from Paris, both work in April. Where do your friends want to go?

I love Amsterdam, and could spend days just walking the city. Factor in primo tulip time and the ease of transport between Paris and Amsterdam, and I'd be off in a flash. Good luck!

i love both cities. i love the beer and i love the other stuff. why not do both. they are really very close. a couple of nights in each would be great fun. as said above the keukenhof should not be missed. probably best gardens in europe. downtown amsterdam is a riot, two great museums. munich has the old town area that is amazing. do both. have fun, be safe.

I would say a bit of a tie. Deutch museum(science) is great but for art Amsterdam wins. How long and how much is train cost would be tie breaker for me .

Since you will be there during tulip season I would choose Amsterdam. Munich is great too, but you could always go there another time.
