AMS Is A Mess

If you’re flying from Amsterdam allow at least 4 hours. The airport is a disaster. We are at our gate and it took 3 hours to get here from the time we arrived.

Yikes! Wonder what the problem is.

So sorry you're having to deal with this.

They say it’s the holiday and staffing shortages, but I suspect it’s more about the number of travelers and staffing because RnR reported similar circumstances last week.

We are boarded now, but we we supposed to take off 3 minutes ago and people are still boarding. We have a tight connection at SFO because they changed our flight to Sacramento. I hope we make it.

Looks like it more than just the holiday causing this. News is reporting there was also a strike by the KLM baggage handlers, numerous flight cancellations, staff shortages, etc.

Hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly.

I hope you made your connecting flight okay !!

Traveling is fun except for the traveling part.

I saw an article (somewhere) to the effect that AMS was demanding airlines cut flights b/c of staffing and other issues. Airlines were refusing to cut flights. There was also a strike last week.

Update: We got home last night. I wasn’t sure that was going to happen. Actually, I was pretty sure it wasn’t but was trying to think positively.

Arriving 4 hours early to AMS it was still stressful and didn’t allow time to get money back from the transportation card we had to preload. It’s good for 5 years. I don’t know if we will be back in The Netherlands during that time, but we can always give them to someone else. Our plane took off almost an hour late due to staffing shortages with ground crew. We had a tight connection in San Francisco, made tighter by the late departure. They made up some time in the air, and Global Entry saved the day upon arrival. We had to hustle to get to the terminal and gate for our connecting flight and we boarded the plane when we got to the gate. We had an uneventful 25ish minute flight to Sacramento and were happy to get home.

Andrea, I'm glad you made the connection. Sounds so stressful.
