The last time we were in Murren it was late May and the Allmendhubel funicular was still closed for the winter. We're planning a late September trip and want to take some of the walks that begin at the top of the funicular. I can't find any seasonal schedules online. Do you know if the funicular and the trails are still open (and free of snow) in late Sept. or early October?
You'll be fine in September. Many of the smaller lifts and funiculars close down after ski season and before summer for annual maintenance, and re-open at the end of May or early June. They stay open at least until October. I found the 2011 schedule for the funicular on the schilthorn.ch website. Here is what is says for the annual maintenance times: Maintenance 2011 Funicular Mürren - Allmendhubel
Spring: 26.04 – 03.06.2011 Autumn: 17.10. – 02.12.2011 http://www.schilthorn.ch/en/timetable-tariffs/timetable/ So it opens June 4 and runs until October 16. It should be free of snow; in the rare event they get an early snowfall it would likely melt in a day or two. September is generally quite nice.
Thank you SO MUCH. I just could not find this info. I can hardly wait to return. All our previous trips have been in the spring and I'm looking forward to seeing the area in the fall as well.
