Alitalia ticketing question

We are traveling to Italy in October. The couple traveling with us has been waiting to purchase their tickets until possibly some fall fares come out. My friend happened on the Alitalia site yesterday and saw that the fare had dropped for that day and booked the flight. She got what we thought was a great deal. Come to find out, when she clicked on the Alitalia home page, it somehow directed her to the British site instead of the US. So, the long and short of this is, what she thought was a great fare turned out to be a fare in British Pounds instead of US dollars. She realized this morning what might have happened and quickly called the airline to ask to cancel the ticket. (it was within 24 hours) They said too bad, she owned the ticket despite the error. Is there anything she can do? Don't some airlines have a 24 hour purchase window that you can cancel the ticket?

Thanks for whatever advice you can give.

Alitalia claims it's in compliance with ENAC rules (on page 2 of this link): www.alitalia.com/US_EN/Images...cm12-10352.pdf

According to this ENAC web link: www.enac-italia.it/documents/qns_ta/linee%20guida%20completo.pdf .... on page 39 of 53 pages, the ENAC site says this :

6 . Allow Telephone Reservations to be Held or Cancelled without Commitment or Penalty within 24 Hours - Subject to applicable ticketing deadlines, each airline will allow the passenger either:

i) to hold a telephone reservation made directly with the airline without payment for a minimum of 24 hours or,

ii) where the airline requires immediate payment at the time of booking, to cancel a reservation without penalty for up to 24 hours.

Passengers will be advised which reservations method applies at the time of booking.**

I'd give them a call back... because it looks like ENAC rule ii) applies in this case... File a credit card dispute if not resolved.
