Alitalia TERRIBLE customer service

I flew with Alitalia from Sicily to Paris in January 2012 and this is by far the worst experience I've ever had with an airline. First they refused priority check-in for my mother who was exhausted as she was being being treating with cancer (we showed my mother's chemotherapy card to the airline agent who said that my mother had to wait in line "just like everyone else"!!!) Upon our arrival in Paris, 2 pieces of luggage were missing. When we finally got them back days later (after having to follow-up with Alitalia via countless several calls), some of our personal belongings were missing and we also found items (such as a toiletry bad) that did not belong to us! I wrote several e-mails to Alitalia's customer relation team and NEVER heard back from them. They don't seem to care about the fact that their staff is being the rudest with their customers, even those in distress. Nor do they care about the fact that their luggage service is completely unsafe. Be mindful if you ever want to travel with them you may not get your personal belongings back!

If I worked for a company that is constantly on the verge of bankruptcy, I probably wouldn't give hoot, either. Having said that, it just 'might' turn the company around if everyone there acted in a professional manner and attempted to make their customers happy. Go figure.

Cappy, I've heard complaints about Alitalia before, which is one reason I try to avoid them. Thanks for posting as the information may be of use to others here.

This rant should be, if anywhere, in the Trip Reports section of the helpline. This Transportation section is for the posting of questions. Only in Trip Reports is it not necessary to pose a question. But while I'm here - any reason you waited 6 months to mention it?

This sounds about par for Alitalia, going back many years...:-( I'm thinking Cappy was just released from the asylum after receiving treatment for Alitalia-induced stress... FYI, the same 'I didn't get all of my stuff/whose stuff is this?' holds true for Poste Italiane, too...
