Alitalia returns to San Francisco (SFO)

Hmmm. Given Alitalia’s long history of financial difficulties I’m not sure if this is good news but they are returning to SFO next year with nonstop service to Rome on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Service will be on B777 aircraft. Perhaps it may be best to purchase trip insurance that includes coverage for financial default.

More options and competition is good though.

If they can get me to Italy, I don't mind if they leave me stranded there 😁

Meh... the Italian government seems fundamentally unwilling to allow the country's flag carrier to fail.

Normally I would hesitate before booking a flight with an airline in horrible finacial shape. But Alitalia have somehow been able to survive so far despite going bankrupt twice in ten years.

I would book the flight knowing that Delta or Air France could pick up the ticket via Sky Team Alliance if there was a problem. I love the Nonstop flights from SFO. We are blessed with many Nonstop Flights. Air Italy to Milan is another option.
