I haven't found too many comments about this airline and the couple I did find were not very positive so, before I abandon the only direct flight between LAX and Rome at reasonable price [INVALID]- what is the most recent experience people are having? Thank you! m

That is very hard to know. Alitalia have been on the edge or bankrupted for the past couple of years and lots of stories about being merged, suspended, etc. but they are like the bunny - they keep on flying. Service is poor but so is most other airlines - just a question of who is the worse. For a reasonable, direct flight I would go with them. Might take out travel insurance and be sure to pay for the flight on a credit card.

Alitalia is one of the few airlines I would actively avoid................... That said, a direct flight is hard to pass up. The worst part of any trip is the discomfort of being packed into the plane for a long flight - a direct flight reduces the pain considerably.
