Alitalia to Customers: Just Bring a Single Piece of Hand Luggage when Traveling

Good luck if you have an Alitalia ticket between now and when the airline is mercifully put down Oct 14.

Of course, it will only rise again as ITA on Oct 15... officially as a new company (wink, wink)... but with 2,500 of the same employees.

What’s in a name? Flights resuming, Phoenix-like, for employees and customers. But will the luggage policy carry forward in the new operation?

But will the luggage policy carry forward in the new operation?

Do you mean the inate ability to lose luggage on a regular basis?

I thought luggage handling was an activity handled by the airport, not by the airline?

I thought luggage handling was an activity handled by the airport, not by the airline?

It all depends.

At some larger airports, where airlines have numerous fights or a hub, they handle all of their own ground operations.

In some ariports with just a few flight a day, it doesn't pay to hire people to work a few flights, so they hire a ground servicing company to handle all their ground needs.

At very small airports, the airport itself may offer ground serivces.

And lastly, some airline do some of the ground services themselves--mostly customer service roles--and leave the rest to a ground service company.
