Alitalia carry on bags

Anybody flown Alitalia recently from US to Italy? I'm wondering how strictly they enforce the 8kg weight requirement. And can you carry on a bag plus a briefcase/purse? My tickets are Delta but the flight is Alitalia if that makes a difference.

It depends on the gate personal and your starting point. My experience is that Alitalia is not particularly strict but they could be on your day.
