We are meeting some friends for a few days in Alassio, Italy. We will be in Cinqueterre and will take the train there. We need to be back in Switzerland (Zurich area) after 2-3 days and wonder whether it would be worth the long train ride (scenery wise) or to take a plane from Nice, if there is an inexpensive one. Any comments?
Thanks, Suzanne
Do you need to get to the Zurich area from the CT or from Alassio? Assuming that you are in the CT, it's a 8.0hr journey with 1-3 train changes depending on which run you choose. I see a fare of 40.80Euro for this journey. If you want to fly from Nice, Nice is 5.5hrs away by train so you won't save much there by the time you get on the plane. Pisa and Milan airports are closer but none of the budget airlines fly to Zurich or Basel from these airports.
Assuming that you want to get to the Zurich area from Alassio, it's 7.0hrs by train. However, with Alassio in the NW corner of Liguria, Nice is about 2.5hrs away. This opens up the flying option a bit. There are budget airline flights to both Zurich and Basel from Nice.
