Alaska website and app outage today

We are currently at SEA and it’s a mess. The Alaska app and website are both down due to a Microsoft outage. If you did not print or add your boarding passes to your wallet before the outage, you will need to join the hundreds of people in line at the desks. Even to get into the lounge they are hand writing each passengers information.

So if you have a flight on Alaska today, arrive much earlier than usual and pack your patience.

Yes. Seeing reports of Azure outage which is killing Microsoft.com, Starbucks Mobile, Grubhub, the list goes on.

Earlier this month it was an Amazon cloud service.

edit: I should have mentioned, "Azure" is Microsoft's cloud service.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m happy that today I was flying Southwest.

Yep….luckily my husband checked in yesterday for our flight from SFO to Bend today and put both passes into his Apple wallet. I didn’t notice anything unusual at the Alaska counters but there was a small line of people getting their boarding passes at the kiosks when we walked past. Flight was on time, so there is that. Moral of story: Always add passes to wallet…..just in case….and maybe put the confirmation code some place too…

Actually making a screen capture is easier, and sometimes wallet passes disappear or are updated in an unexpected way after being placed there.

Toby—I always do that too plus a printout. I couldn’t print these though as even the day before there was a glitch and it wouldn’t print. At least I had them in my photos and wallet.

@mikliz and Toby - I SO agree! ...even though I generally fly Delta instead of Alaska.

The Delta app is glitchy at times and in July when I came back in thru SLC I could not get the app to load my onward boarding pass (even though it had been there when I left from Edinburgh). It just took a moment for the staffer down in the International area to print me a new one BUT lesson learned. I had been doing wallet and screen shots but didn't that time. Yesterday when I traveled, I did both and every time my boarding pass was updated I did another screen shot, lol.

It was very entertaining when at 9:00 last night, I got an alert from Alaska that my boarding pass was available to download. And then a few minutes later that my flight was boarding. Oookaay! What a time for Alaska to be redoing their website to accommodate their new Atmos.

" I had been doing wallet and screen shots but didn't that time."

Bob Pease, the great Analog Engineer, claimed when you did the safety precaution for an event it would cause the Universe to not have the event happen. So, for all the people who always claim they've never needed the precaution they always did. Of course!

I wouldn't go so far. :)
