Ok, so answering my own question: I just called Lufthansa and they would charge over $1,000 to take a one way from Cologne to Frankfurt for the 6 of us. Don't think that's worth doing AT ALL!

It's actually just a seat on a regular ICE bullet train from Frankfurt airport to Cologne airport. You can definitely get better rates if you book directly with DB on www.bahn.de. Depending on when you need to take that train you should get it from €29 one way per person. Alternatively check with your airline if they sponser Rail&Fly tickets in Germany which means €19 one way to the airport on any DB train, 2nd class.

Andreas, according to the Bahn website, Rail&Fly is only offered to people with a residence in Germany.

Lee, thanks, I wasn't aware of this. However they never ask for any kind of proof of residence. So just use your hotel's address or any other German address. It's an online print out yourself ticket.

I thought with the Lufthansa Rail and Fly tickets, you had to buy them with your plane tickets.

I can use my grandfather's address, if they really don't check.

There is also a German Rail Ticket (not to be confused with German Rail Pass) that your travel agent can get as part of your airline ticket. It is just another coupon in your flight ticket book and covers your rail transportation from the airport to where you are going. However, the Bahn website doesn't give fares, so I don't think it is a fare deal, just a convenience feature.

You need to find out if "your" airline sponsors rail and fly tickets. Their respective deal code has to be stated on that ticket (which usually is an online ticket) and the rail ticket then is valid in conjunction with the air ticket.

Hi. My airline is Lufthansa, and AirRail appears to be all they have for non-German customers, but I don't find it worth the price. Thank you!
