I'll let Jo tell you about Frankfurt (she's right there), but transit in Basel is handled by the local transit authority, Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe (www.bvb.ch). You can see the authority map here. Unless you are familiar enough with the area to take a shortcut, the best way appears to be to take bus 50 from the airport to SBB Bahnhof and a tram from there to the port.

Would love to help, but what port? Where does this cruise start, which city, which cruise line?

Jo, Google maps shows a cruise ship basin at Lindleystrasse in Frankfurt. Are there others? Looks like there is a U-Bahn station nearby.

Looks like she is taking a Rhein cruise that starts in Basel and ends in Frankfurt and flying between them.

We arrived in Basel by river boat and left by train, so cannot help about the airoprt. If you get to the Railway station, there is a tram takes you through the market square to the river across a small park from where I expect your boat will leave from. there is no "port" as such, merely some piers out into the river which the boats tie up on. The various routes of the trams are well laid out at the stops, and even though the instrutions are in German, getting a ticket from teh machine and determining where you are going is quite straightforward.

Sound like some ships anyway tie up to the piers sticking into the Rhein at St. Johanns-Park, near the St. Johanns-tor tram (11) stop. Check with your ship's intinerary to see if this will be your "port".

If so, the easiest route is to take the bus all of the way into Bahnhof SBB, then take the #11 tram from in front of the Bahnhof, direction St-Louis Grenze, to the St. Johanns-tor stop.

A faster, more compicated, but probably not less expensive, way would be to get off of the #50 bus at Kannenfeldplatz, take the #1 tram two stops (direction Dreirosenbrücke, about 3 min) to Voltaplatz, then the #11 tram 2 stops (direction Aesch, about 2 min) to St. Johanns-tor.
