We will be arriving at FCO on Thursday. 4 adults. What is the best/easiest way to get to our hotel near the colosseum. Then we will be leaving with 5 adults. Suggestions?
If you're packing light and don't mind walking a bit and navigating the public transportation system, you can take a train into the city and then the Metro to your hotel. There are a couple of ways you can do this. You can take the Leonardo Express to Termini station, then the Metro B line to Colosseo. Or you can take the FL1 regional train to Ostiense station, which is connected to the Piramide Metro station, where again you can pick up the Metro B line.
If that sounds like too much of a pain, then take a cab.
More cost effective for four passengers to arrange for a private transfer with a company such as RomeLimousine.
As you exit baggage claim and customs, turn right and there is a desk for vans to Rome. €15 per person direct to your hotel.
I agree with Suki - with four or five people, a taxi is not only easier, but cheaper, than train and bus combos or shuttle vans that will make other stops.
RomeCabs and Romeinlimo are two companies that are often mentioned here as being reliable (no personal experience)
I agree with the posters above. Besides being relatively inexpensive, it will be logistically easier to take a van directly to your hotel rather than wrangling your luggage on te metro, where you may be jet lagged and in a crowded situation and may be pickpocketed.
The taxi is fixed at 48 euro for four passengers and luggage. So that is best going in.
Be carefull with taxis , they tend to inflate their fare upn arrival best ck with your hotel for recommendations.
We have used RomeLimousine and their price was only a few Euros more than the flat rate for a taxi.
If you want the best/easiest way, consider a private car service. After a long flight, some jet lag, not being familiar with the area, there is nothing better than having a private driver meet your group inside the terminal and whisk you to your hotel. No fending off the "independent" cabs, waiting in the regular taxi line, or just having a "lost" feeling. It is not the cheapest way, but it is definitely the best/easiest way. We can not say enough good things about Rome Cabs. It is a private car service (not a cab company) but only cost a little more than a regular taxi for a group your size. We always use them and have always been very pleased. Go to romecabs.com and see what you think. We always send an email and they answer us with a quote within 24 hours. At one time you did have to pay cash (Euros) at the end of the journey but not in advance. I believe they now take credit cards.
......Be carefull with taxis , they tend to inflate their fare upn arrival best ck with your hotel for recommendations.....
That is basically false. The taxi rate between the airport and center area of Rome is 48euro, 1-4 passengers and luggage. They cannot inflate their rate on arrival.
Ask your hotel for a recommendation.
