Airport security changes coming?

Just read a local news alert that reports a step closer to being able to keep laptop & liquids in your bag while going through airport security. This is thanks to technology improvements.
Bloomberg Government reports TSA signed a contract last week for 300 computed tomography machines to be placed at airports that have not yet been disclosed.

The scanners, have been tested at a handful of airports for the past two years. They create a 3D image of what's in your bag. This means they can be programmed to look for those items you've had to remove since 9/11.

The plan is to have more than 2,000 scanners set up in the next 8 years.

We usually have TSA PreCheck, but did not have it this week for our outbound flight. It seems to be a hit or a miss.

This would be great news and really make airport security more streamlined and safe.

Not all airlines do TSA Precheck. Not all airports, either. And even if there is a Precheck line for your airport and airline, once in a while they randomly, intentionally deny Precheck to those who are qualified, just to mess with you (actually, to just be random, that's how they roll).

@David, yes that is correct. This was HA. Flew out of SeaTac. Fortunately we had plenty of time before our flight & it went smoothly. ;)

Just flew out of Phoenix this morning, with no TSA PreCheck. But even though the signs still indicated shoes off, liquids out and so forth, we were told we didn't have to do those things. It was really streamlined. Hallelujah!
