It was only a matter of time.
I can't imagine why anyone would need more than one checked bag, anyway. Even when I moved to Austria to go to school I only took a carryon backpack and one suitcase. Other stuff was shipped to me (and shipped back) later.
There are lots of travelers who are not tourists and maybe going home/mother country to visit relatives, etc. in which case it is very easy to have more than 1 suitcase to check. Lets not make the assumption that everyone is a tourist on a 1 or 2 week trip to Europe.
