What are the best websites to go to for airline tickets in terms of price, but also in terms of help if something goes wrong. I've looked at farecompare, orbitz, etc., but would like to know if there are any I should stay away from. Also, besides Alitalia, are there any other airlines to stay away from. Iberia seems to have good prices.

I use kayak.com to find the best price. It searches other search engines and websites, including the airlines, to find the best fare, then it gives you all kinds of ways to fit the options it finds to your needs and gives you the links to the websites with that itinerary and fare.
I like Orbitz and have had great luck with them for ticketing, and resolving problems, such as when the old Swiss Air shut down forcing my Grandparents to buy tickets on another flight to get home. Orbitz took care of getting the refund of the return portion of the fare. No questions, just fixed.

As far as the best sites to deal with when having problems, asking people who only provide their experience is not a good indication. Every site will have a few people that got screwed and a few that had wonderful experiences. The real question is which reliably provides a good experience overall. I suggest that people not post an individual experience but if anyone knows a good survey on the net, please post that for Tania.
