Is it just me that has the feeling that the author has confused economy plus with premium economy? Does any 737 have premium economy? Is premium economy ever offered domestically? "Sixty bucks to upgrade"-- that's from economy to economy plus, not to premium economy. Premium economy would never be such a cheap upgrade.

People buy premium economy for more seat width especially, and to deal with overnight flights with pairs of seats rather than sets of three for the A350s, 777s, and 787s that have sets of 3 seats on the side. None of that is mentioned in the article.

If you've ever flown the resurrected Boeing 737 Max domestically, you'll pay for whatever it's called to get the extra inches of knee space in the first rows of economy.

Yes but it's a terrible mistake for such a prestige magazine to make, perhaps the most respected magazine in the US.

I just checked Air Canada (my airline of choice), and they call them Preferred Seats.

I think the author gets away with it using these words "premium (which goes by different names depending on the airline) delivers various creature comforts".

I'm still pretty sure the author is confused.

I suppose the Saga Class offered on the Icelandair 737 Max to Reykjavik from many North American cities could be considered premium economy on a 737, but that's not what the author is referring to.

Personally I think premium economy transatlantic is worth it either way if 30% more than coach, but it is often priced 50% to 100% more.

As to the extra pitch economy plus or economy comfort, I have only had that once when a change of planes left all the regular economy seats taken and I got one for nothing extra. I have also read that when all the seats are taken and there are only a couple crappy middle seats left on the airplane chart, best to choose no seat and you have a good chance of getting the + legroom seats at no charge at check in.

Edit: Checking Air Canada, it's called premium economy on Air Canada. "preferred seats" is the Air Canada term for economy plus, but that's confusing to me because on most US airlines, "preferred seats" are just tight legroom coach seats toward the front of the coach section, but behind the economy plus seats with more legroom. Now I am getting confused.
