We are planning to fly to Frankfurt from Indianapolis on or around December 2, 2009 and return Dec 11. Should I purchase tickets now or wait to see if prices go down? I can do round trip for two for about $1350-$1500 total if I purchase now. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
I would advise you to start tracking fares daily using whichever websites you prefer, but www.kayak.com and www.skyscanner.net are two really great sites you should check out. A soon as you find a fare that meets all of your requirements, including price, book it without hesitation. Don’t wait for a better deal. Fares go up and down all the time, and it’s difficult to predict the best time to buy. Start with your desired price in mind as a baseline, and work from there. I can share with you that I purchased tickets in March for an upcoming trip in November, because the fare had never been lower. That seems really early, but the price hasn’t gone down to what I paid since that time. Having said this, it’s possible it may be offered at a better price prior to my departure. I doubt it, but it could happen. If it does, I’ll still be happy knowing that I beat the price I had preset in my mind before purchasing. The point is that there’s no real way to know for sure the best time for purchasing…it has to be right for you. Once you do find an acceptable fare, double check it on the airline’s website…you may find the exact same flight there for a little less. Good luck!
Thank you Michael.
We're going to London in October, but in our planning told our travel agent we were flexible - we could travel just as well in November or December. She told us that rates right now were as cheap as they were going to be.
I doubt if your travel agent has a crystal ball. She has no more of an idea than anyone else. Right now, she is interested in selling you a ticket. Ask her to guarantee that this is the lowest price and that she will refund the difference if the ticket goes lower. I doubt if she will do that.
