You might consider a card that will give you a cash back rebate, and then put those funds in a specific 'travel expenses' account? I believe Discover has one.

I love my American Express miles. You have to book one year in advance but we went to Europe business class on Air France for 90,000 each.

I use my Mileage Plus Visa from United. I always plan ahead and book as soon as the window opens (330 days before the return flight) and I always get great direct flights, good seats and usually fly open jaw as well.

My favourite is British Airways....they had a one week special last November and we are traavelling to Europe for 25,000 points each....regularly 50,000 and even that is still one of the lowest redemptions.
