Airfares to Europe from West Coast

We are signed up for ETBT tour August, need to fly into Frankfurt and out of Vienna. We are leaving from Reno NV. Fares right now are 1000-1200. Need advice on getting best price on flights...should we book round trip from reno to Frankfurt, and catch a flight between vienna and frankfurt? What websites do the best job on fares to/from Europe? Thanks for any advice!

Check www.condor.com (Former Lufthansa subsidiary, now part of the Air Berlin family; German full service charter carrier) from Las Vegas nonstop to Frankfurt. Ceck Open Jaw LAS-FRA//VIE-LAS and alternatively just roundtrip to FRA and a one-way from VIE to FRA on Air Berlin on www.airberlin.com

1000-1200 is not a bad price for high season. Lufthansa has some specials - as does swiss. Flying direct is often cheaper in some ways since there are fewer fees if the flights are popular. You may consider a train ride from Frankfurt or Munich to Vienna. It may be a nice extra day or 2 for sight seeing along the way, but with all the domestic and budget airlines - its probably wont be cheaper. If you have a tight timeline - you may well want to book all together end to end to make sure you get your flights when you need/want them.

Debra:

I live over the big hill from you, and most often fly out of Sacramento, which like Reno, is not a hub of international flights to Europe. I do not like to spend 20 or more hours getting to Europe with multiple changes of planes, which is what you get when flying a major carrier out of Sacramento. I am sure Reno would be the same. I equally dislike a tense traffic worrying drive to San Francisco, never knowing how long it will take. The solution: We fly Southwest to Los Angeles, then pickup a non-stop to our destination there. The bonus of LA in the summer is that it is cheaper than Sacramento or San Francisco, and you do not have to deal with the afternoon thunderstorms that hit the midwest and east coast hubs where you change planes. If the flights out of LA do not work, try Seattle and Portland. Use a variety of West Coast cities to search on Kayak.com for the best fare, and then add about $150 for a round trip on Southwest to that Gateway, and download Ding,
