Airfare ticket sale on Delta

Today I purchased round trip tickets between Atlanta and Italy for $400 off the usual price!! I have been tracking the fares for several months now at $1,540 so when Delta posted a price of $1,140 today, I jumped on it!
I'm flying into Milan and out of Rome back to Atlanta in October. I am booked on RS 17 days in Italy tour beginning Oct 9 - 25. Can't wait, I consider a trip official when I purchase the air tickets.

The even better news is that I used a $600 voucher from Delta to reduce my cost to $540!! I really got lucky this time.
You probably already know about the winter airfare sales but thought I would share my good fortune.
Happy travels,
Judy B

Yes, I picked up some flights to Europe for about the name money from the West Coast, I added in the extra legroom seats and still made out about $60 cheaper than before.

Of course, if the world economy follows the stock market we may find $700 round trip tickets by June.

To be fair, $1,540 is not "the usual price" for October flights - it's the price you'll see when you're looking that many months out for an October flight. I don't think airlines hedge their bets on prices that far out without any further fluctuations. It's great that you were able to use the Delta voucher to bring it down to $540 - but, minus the voucher, Turkish Air actually gives Delta a run for its money. Right now Turkish Air is showing $900 and I would bet that the price will come down in a few months (I've flown them several times and have tracked fares for several cities). I mostly fly in Sept-October, and manage to find (economy) tickets for < $900 out of the Mid-Atlantic/ East Coast. Delta dominates ATL-Hartsfield and it's great that it will be challenged by Turkish Air (and hopefully others) in the future.

Thanks, Agnes. I have Delta sky miles and am usually loyal to them because I earn miles with each purchase and flight I pay for. I save my sky miles for more expensive trips. I suppose I would have to get to DC in order to take advantage of Turkish Air's special pricing deals which would decrease the sale benefit to me in terms of time. I have a limited number of vacation days.
I just looked at your post again - are you saying Turkish Air will fly out of Atlanta, possibly?

Barnstormer, yes, air fares could go even lower. Glad you had some good ticket prices, lucky you for going to Europe multiple times!
