First time traveler to Europe . . . . looking to travel in July 2025 from Toronto to London, visit Paris and Madrid, then return to Toronto from Madrid. When I started researching several months ago, roundtrip airfares from Toronto to Europe were roughly $1000 USD per person for summer 2024. Now that the July 2025 reservations are open, the flights are $1500 USD per person. Is this too early to book a flight? Do these flights come down as time goes on, or have the prices for 2025 increased overall? Toronto is the closest international airport, but is it more reasonable traveling to New York and catching international flights from there?
Often when the airline opens flights for bookings, they start high. "Here was what we hope to get." They may come down in a few months if they don't get a lot of takers. Its a roll of the dice. Generally July is peak summer travel season, so who knows if your fellow travelers will be biting on this opening bid.
Keep in mind you want to search using multi city - arrive London / depart Madrid. Not two way tickets.
Do your research on Google Flights, but always book directly with the airlines. On Google Flights, you can research price trends, history, set price alerts, and see prices for an entire month. Often you can save money by just adjusting your dates by a few days. Prices fluctuate a lot, often within the same day. Good luck!
Hi. We live in Northern New York and I research flights (stops, cost etc) from a variety of locations that I am willing to travel to for an international flight including Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Newark, NYC etc. You might be surprised at the differences, especially because all airlines do not fly from all locations. We figure in the extra travel expense and hassle when making our decisions. Good luck!

Check both open jaw and one way. Sometimes by using different airlines for each leg you can save money.
Also consider flying from Detroit. I live in South Florida and on a few occasions my flights originated from Palm Beach to Detroit and then nonstop to Europe. NYC is about twice as far from Toronto as Detroit. It’s also a bit early to get competitive prices on 2025 summer flights.
There's simply no way to know what airfares are going to run for next Summer.
I suggest you keep watch on the airfares every couple of months to get an idea what normal airfares. That way if there's a drop in prices the early part of 2025 you will be poised to jump on the low price.
And yes, the prices from New York City /Newark and Boston are usually lower.
There's a budget airline called Play flying from Hamilton, Ontario into Iceland and there you can connect on Play to Madrid, London-Stansted or Paris De Gaulle. They price by supply and demand, and prices start at just over $500 round trip--and vary a lot.
Set flight alerts on Google now, and also look at price history.
I've been tracking a flight to Zurich for most of the year and the fare swings are amazing. But after a few weeks I figured out what a good price was and I would have known when to bite.
Buy refundable tickets! Think of the extra money as travel insurance.
I buy changeable tickets not refundable. Much cheaper and gives me enough flexibility if something goes wrong.
Yes— this is too early to book a July flight if you’re interested in getting a deal. When the airlines first put seats on sale they will shoot for the moon on pricing.
The prices will subsequently seesaw up and down according to the algorithms used by each airline. Generally, for international flights, usually 2-6 months in advance of the plane’s departure date is the sweet spot for getting the best price for flights. That’s not my conclusion, but the conclusion of a study done by airline industry analysts. For high season in July, your best price is likely to be offered closer to 6 months in advance. Flights on airlines flying out of New York City area airports ( ie JFK, Newark). have the most competition on the east coast so NY departure will likely offer the best deals.
As suggested already, set up a price alert with Google Flights and also Skyscanner and get ready to buy your ticket around New Year’s. www.Skyscanner.com will let you select “Flexible Dates” for your dates of departure and return. Then the monthly calendars display the best prices in green numbers for the least expensive dates to fly. Keep checking online and sign up for an airfare notification by e-Mail.
