Airbus orders A320 software changes, may disrupt flights

"Airbus said it was ordering a software fix on a significant number of its A320 family of jets. These changes may cause travel disruptions over the weekend. ... Industry sources said the scale of the operation is expected to cause significant disruption to its entire fleet of A320 jets, that encompasses some 6,000 jets."

Some example numbers:

  • Japan's largest airline, ANA, canceled 65 flights due to the problem.
  • Air France canceled 35 flights.
  • According to the company, 209 aircraft were affected at American Airlines. However, the airline was confident that almost all aircraft would have the new software update by mid-morning (local time in the US).
