Air travel within the EU for an American citizen

Hello,

I am considering flying from Copenhagen to Oslo, and Oslo to Stockholm during my upcoming trip to Scandinavia. I know train travel is cool and all but I am hoping to save some of my limited time by flying.

As a non-EU citizen, will I need to go through the complete passport control for each flight?

Thanks!

You move freely with Europe. As far as saving time, be sure your count all the time associated with flying. My generally guideline is if the train ride is longer than six to seven hours than I will consider air as potentially quicker.

Your passport is your ID in Europe, so your passport will be checked at check in and at the gate, but this is not passport control or immigration, just an identity check, and it is very quick. There is no passport checks or immigrations checks between most EU countries (and Norway and Iceland). There is also no significant difference between the way EU citizens and non-EU citizens are treated in intra European flights. Only difference: EU citizens can use a national government-issued ID card for identification purposes at check in and at the gate, non EU citizens will have to use their passport, but the procedure is exactly the same.
