We have a 6:45 am flight to Rome. We will be staying in Monreale the previous evening and we will have a car rental car to return. Is the car rentals open that early or should we return car the night before and train to airport..or possibly stay at a hotel closer to airport? This will be Oct 14, 2012

there is a drop box for rental cars for returns prior to their opening-which I doubt will be until 8 AM. Suggest you check the rental car website or call them about their hours. FYI, cab fare from Palermo to the airport is 45E, and I don't think there is any train or metro service, however, there is a bus. Have left a Hertz rental prior to that flight with no problems.
