Air line fares

I have been looking at air line fares to Germany for May 2012 and found them cheaper through Travelocity than directly through the air lines. About $350 less expensive. Does that seem reasonable?? What's the reasoning?

That doesn't look right. Make sure it is the total price that includes as taxes and fees. Follow Travelocity all the way to the purchase window to see when the taxes and fees are applied.

I ran the process all the way through to just before payment and there is a $375 difference to fly from Louisville to Munich and return between Travelocity and Lufthansa.

Is Travelocity's itinerary all on Lufthansa? Sometimes online agents can put together cheaper itineraries by combining different carriers.

For an early May flight from Louisville to Munich, Travelocity comes up with an $882 fare on US Airways. The US Airways site shows the same flight for $883. United wants $1070, American $1049 and Delta $1206. There may be some benefit for booking on Travelocity if you pick a flight-hotel package, but the savings comes from the hotel side of things, not the air fare.
