Air India from ORD and EWR to Frankfurt

Starting end of March Air India will offer daily flights from O'Hare and Newark to Frankfurt (continuing to New Delhi and Mumbai) on brand-new Boeing 777 -200 resp. -300 series aircraft. Obviously those flights start at very low fares. Air India will be accepted as Star Alliance carrier (thus becoming code-share partner of United, Lufthansa etc.) and make Frankfurt their hub in Europe. Now what do you think, can one finally "risk" to fly Air India?

I've never flown Air India--what did you mean by "risk"--is it known to be a poor airline?

Thanks for posting. I'm always looking for a new cheap flight.

Andreas, IMHO, nothing beats Lufthansa. LAX to Frankfurt in 10.5hrs. Great service.

(Nice to see your message again. Haven't seen you in a while).

Larry, this is not about West Coast to Europe, only about the new AI services from ORD and EWR ;-) I posted it because I remember about a year ago or so there was a discussion on here about the quality and reliability of Air India and most people said they were a bit... exotic to say the least ;-). But now, I assume, they must have changed in oder to adapt to Star Alliance....?

A friend flew Air India a few years ago and said the flight was fine and service was good...as long as you can stand the smell of curry for the entire flight. He said it was a little odorous but since he likes curry, he didn't mind.
