Given the questions you have raised, I would suggest you visit a travel agent until such time that you are more familiar with the internet and travel searching. All that said, try using Google to start your search - there many recommended travel sites as you will find out from all the responses you should get. Happy Travels

Barbara, I like sidestep.com (or kayak.com ... they are owned by the same group) when searching for airfares.
As far as best time to book tickets, that is a bit of a mystery. Start watching prices now.

I like Travelocity and used them for tickets last fall to Ireland. They also offered insurance that was a great price and included medical evacuation.

Best fares to Ireland and best hotel/flight/car deals. Used them 6 times in the past 4 years. It's the Irish airline.
