air berlin

Has anyone used Air Berlin for flights in Europe? Will the RS rolling backpack work as a carry on? Or will I need to pay for it? What other European budget airlines are good to use?

I haven't flown Air Berlin, but it's among the airlines and search engines recommended at https://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/budget-flights. The [RS rolling backpack](the RS rolling backpack ) is designed to be carry-on size for pretty much any airline, but some also have weight restrictions. The airline should provide it's specifications (in centimeters) and you can see the bag details under Specifications on the link above (20" x 14" x 7",including wheels).

Marie, We flew AirBerlin last year from London to Berlin and it was a fine experience on a low cost airline. We checked our bags as they couldn't meet their restrictions. From their website today:
"Carry-On Baggage
On each flight, you can take one item of hand baggage into the cabin, which may weigh up to 8 kg. The dimensions may not exceed 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm. Please check the size of your hand baggage in the racks provided at check-in.
In addition one of the following items (max. 40 cm x 30 cm x 10 cm; 2 kg) may be taken into the cabin free of charge:
a laptop case
a lady’s handbag, a lady’s purse or a gentlemen’s handbag"

Converting to inches, thats 21 and 21/32 inches X 15 and 3/4 inches X 9 and 1/16 inches. Hope this helps.

Marie, I forgot to convert the max weight limit for carry-on. 8 Kg = 17.637 pounds.
