After the Bernina Express, from Tirano to Lake Como

I'll be on Switzerland for a round trip next June, and I'm planning to do the Bernina Express from St. Moritz to Tirano. Then i'd like to rent a car to go around Lake Como and then to Malpensa. The car is the best option? Where I can find a rent a car?

You could take the train from Tirano to Varenna and travel around the lake by boat from there. Train to Milan and on to Malpensa from either Varenna or Como town. That is if you cannot find a rental car.

Pedro, Using a rental car may not be the best option, as I don't believe there are any car hire agencies in Tirano. You can easily travel by train to Lago di Como, but if you absolutely want to rent a car, it would be best to: > Take a train to Varenna and then a boat to Como. You should be able to find rental agencies there. > Take a train to Milano Centrale and then hire a car there. Of course, that means you'd have to "backtrack" to get back to Lago di Como. Buon Viaggio!

Thank's Sasha. We'll have 2 complete days around Lake Como. What do you think about a trip to Lugano one of those days? Is it worth it? On the lake - Varenna, Bellagio, Mennagio - what else?

Three years ago my husband and I took the William Tell boat trip from Lucerne to Lugano. We spent five nights in Lugano. One day we took the train to Milan. Another day we took the train to Lake Como. Another day we took the train to Lake Magiorre. We went by boats around the two lakes. It was lovely. Then after spending our time in Lugano, we took the Bernina Express from Lugano to Zurich. We loved staying in Lugano. We just got off the train and took a funicular a few yards down a hill to our lovely hotel.
