After 150 years of service Prague-Nuremberg trains cease operations

In December 2012 the train servie between Prague, Pilsen and Nuremberg will cease operations - after 150 years of service. Not even the iron curtain did what the bus competition now managed to do. The two daily express trains from Prague will then be rerouted to Munich instead, upgrading that line to 4 express connections per day and direction. The trains needed 4 hours and 50 minutes from Prague to Nuremberg or vice versa. The bus, operated by joint venture between DB German Rail and Czech Student Agency, only needs 3 hours and 40 minutes on the new Autobahn. And unlike the trains the busses don't stop at Pilsen, a historic city also known as the birthplace of Pilsner beer. By the way: DB German Rail now also operate busses between Prague and Munich. They, too, save travelers 50 minutes compared to the express trains.
