I realize that on most barbarian— I mean European— airlines, seat selection is an extra cost. But I see nowhere on the Aer Lingus website or their app where it is possible to display the seats for a reservation and pick one and pay. I searched the web and read that a person has to call and pay over the phone, can that be right?
That is not correct. I booked with them online and picked and paid for my seat online. This was for my May 2025 trip.
Apparently seats can only be selected @ purchase, I am reading this off the Aer Lingus website. If you decide like me to get seats later after paying then you are SOL and have to call or use chat feature. I bought with Avios if that matters.
Also going in May.

If you have already booked, you need to go under "manage trip" and you can do it there.
*Online seat selection is not possible if your booking was made through a third party such as a travel agent or a tour operator, i.e. was not made directly on aerlingus.com. Please contact the third party to investigate your options.
This might be the problem, award tickets are issued by avios.com, even though purchase initiated at Aer Lingus.com. At least that’s who the credit card statement says issued the ticket.
If you have already booked, you need to go under "manage trip" and you can do it there.
The whole seat selection stuff is grayed out.
I made reservations using fictitious information for both a one way and round trip to Dublin on the website and both times the seat selection automatically came up. If I chose a standard seat, for which there was not up-charge, the price remained the same and if I chose a seat that did have a up-charge the price reflected that. The seat choice came up third in the reservation sequence following the destination/date and then the personal information sections. It also gave the option to opt of of seat selection on that page.
